TSITP: An Era of Wednesdays, Voice Notes, and Girlhood

The Summer I Turned Pretty was a whole new experience. Wednesday rituals, endless voice notes, late-night predictions, the new season brought it all.

When Season 3 aired, Gaurangi and I built our own tradition. Every Wednesday, we would put aside our work for an hour and watch the newest release together. We’d laugh, make wild predictions, and end the day with theories for the next week. At the same time, Lavanya and I would be on calls, fangirling over every perfectly narrated scene Jenny Han had given us. When none of us thought she could top Episode 5, she brought Episode 6, then 7, and then 8 each one better than the last.

And then there was the music. Phenomenal. Every lyric felt so carefully chosen, like a mastermind had been working behind the scenes to pair the story with the perfect soundtrack.

I think what made the show work so beautifully was how Jenny's writing catered to the female gaze, for anyone who loves shows with a summery vibe. Each scene gave us something to talk about, something to hold onto, something to carry us until the next Wednesday arrived.

Watching tsitp felt like sitting around a digital campfire. Reels, voice notes, and endless discussions brought the entire internet together. One moment, we were united in hating Jeremiah, and the next, we were admitting that a 70% cacao, two-tier dark chocolate cake layered with raspberry coulis and finished with a mirror glaze did sound delicious.

The magic stretched far beyond our living rooms. Edits played on loop, reels flooded our feeds, and threads dissected every glance, every line, every choice. It was one of those rare times where everyone felt like they were in on the same inside joke, the same conversation, the same fever. It felt like a worldwide sleepover where distance didn’t matter because somehow, we were all squealing together.

I can’t believe it’s coming to an end. Just 2 more debriefings left.

The Summer I Turned Pretty wasn’t just a show; it was an era, an era I’ll always cherish.

Cheers,
